ELB Engineering Services (Pty) Ltd (ELB) is a accredited distributor and sales agent for Centrifugal & Mechanical Industries (CMI), a division of Elgin Separation Solutions, for sub-Equatorial Africa and Madagascar. The ELB Group, since its inception in 1919, has continuously grown on the back of aligning itself with world-class technology partners. The business philosophy of combining a strong execution capability in Southern Africa with experience, know-how and offshore technology has differentiated ELB over many years.

CMI is a US-based company and was established in 1938 on the principles of having great products and even better service. Today, that tradition continues with excellence in workmanship and customer support. Based in St. Louis, Missouri, CMI serves a diverse group of industries, including coal preparation, minerals and chemicals processing.

CSI, another company within the Elgin group, has provided true value since 1981 through lower initial cost, reduced operating costs and by using its extensive customer service programme. Based in Raleigh, Illinois, CSI serves the coal processing, oil drilling and gas exploration industries with various products designed to provide integrated equipment solutions for bulk material handling and processing needs.

The CSI rotary breaker has proven itself globally as the rotary breaker of choice due to its practical design considerations and superior materials of construction. The capacities of the CSI rotary breakers vary from 260 mt to 2 145 mt/h, with breaker plate hole sizes ranging from 38 mm to 203 mm (round or square). Factors such as the Hardgrove Grindability Index (HGI), feed lump size, and material handling flow chart, all affect the capacity of the machine and the actual rotary breaker size must be confirmed with a CSI rotary breaker specialist.

The rotary coal breaker provides both positive control of the top size and liberation of rock from the coal. The rotary principle has the advantage of very low fines production because undersize coal is immediately screened out. Rotary breakers are useful when the ROM coal stream is expected to have significant quantities of waste in the form of rock, which must be removed prior to further processing.

The following features are available on the CSI Rotary Breakers:

  • Available in dual or single end drive
  • Non-overlapping cast manganese breaker plates with 37 mm tall x 25 mm wide stiffening gussets and square countersunk recesses for square head bolts
  • Replaceable spreader beams machined to a common length with stiffening gussets
  • Tyres manufactured from endless ring forging
  • Trunnions manufactured from 4 140 steel heat treated to a hardness of 280 BRN
  • Independent ploughs adjustable from 18 to 63 degrees
  • 6mm thick steel sectionalised dust cover with two access doors
  • 10mm thick steel sectionalised product hopper with four access doors on both drive and non-drive sides
  • Thrust rollers on the feed and discharge ends
  • Beam mounting pads machined to a common height
  • In-line 381mm tall lifters
  • Discharge scoop with 12 mm thick liner
