Project Description
The project involves the construction and operation of a third-generation nuclear power facility, equipped with four power plants each, with a total capacity of 1 200 MW.

The NPPs will include enhanced safety systems, developed after the nuclear disaster at Japan’s Fukushima NPP in March 2011. The project will be built in the north of Egypt.

Value
The cost of the project has not been disclosed, but Russia has extended a loan to Egypt to cover the cost of construction, which is expected to be paid off over 35 years.

Duration
The project is expected to be completed by 2022, with first power from the first nuclear reactor expected in 2024.

Latest Developments
Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Energy, Mohamed Shaker, and Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation director-general Sergey Kirienko signed an agreement in November 2015 for the collaboration in the construction and operation of the NPP.
