Heavy-duty vehicle manufacturer Daimler Truck South Africa (DTSA) has appointed Maretha Gerber to succeed Michael Dietz as CEO and president of the company.

Dietz will be taking up a position in Dubai, where he will head up Daimler’s Middle Eastern operations, effective April 1.

Gerber is the first female CEO in DTSA's history.

She currently holds the position of sales and marketing VP for Mercedes-Benz and Fuso trucks.

Gerber helped the company to achieve record Mercedes-Benz and Fuso truck sales in Southern Africa last year, as well as uphold Mercedes-Benz’s status as the market leader of heavy-duty trucks in South Africa.

Her appointment comes as the group invests in improving many of its dealerships in terms of capacity building and training.

DTSA has managed to grow its sales from 600 units a year in 2018 to more than 1 400 units a year in 2023, with the majority of operators being stationed in South Africa.

Gerber mentions a key focus for DTSA is to introduce e-mobility solutions later this year and to continue growing its used truck business.

She is committed to championing DTSA’s existing strategy further and building on the successes that were spearheaded by Dietz.
