DPI Plastics’ commitment to environmental sustainability has been recognised with a Product Stewardship Excellence Award at the Southern African Vinyls Association (SAVA) conference, Vinyl SA 2017.

The Vinyl SA 2017 Awards are a first for South Africa, where SAVA acknowledged and awarded members for their commitment to its Product Stewardship Programme (PSP) to promote sustainability in the PVC industry. The awards were bestowed on those companies that have achieved a noteworthy level of excellence in meeting SAVA’s PSP commitments for 2016.

As a signatory to the PSP, developed initially in 2011, DPI Plastics “has embraced the voluntary commitments made under this initiative, and addressed the particular environmental issues associated with the manufacture, use, and disposal of PVC products in South Africa,” SAVA Chairman Alastair Calder commented.

SAVA plays an active role in the sustainability of the industry by addressing PVC-related issues, and engaging constructively with stakeholders and roleplayers to create a positive environment for a vibrant and growing industry.

“DPI Plastics has taken something of a leading position in the industry in promoting the latest standards. We aim to create awareness around this important issue, and educate the market as to any industry and specification changes,” Technical and Product Manager Renier Snyman highlights.

Snyman delivered a presentation on the current status of certification in South Africa, elaborating on the various acronyms related to certification, in addition to explaining how third-party certification actually works.
DPI Plastics was a Bronze Sponsor of Vinyl SA 2017, held on Wednesday 7 June 2017 at the Hilton Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg.

The global PVC manufacturing community is working hard to implement, and promote, the use of environment-friendly additives. SAVA liaises with other international vinyl bodies, such as the Vinyl Council of Australia, to share best practice in this regard.
