Name and Location
Djibouti City drinking water facilities rehabilitation project, Djibouti.

Project Description
The objective of the project is to address the severe drinking water shortage in Djibouti City and to achieve the optimal use of the underground water that is currently available.

This will be accomplished by rehabilitating the current water production and transport facilities, as well as the distribution network, by reducing the amount of water lost and by improving water distribution and water consumption.

Also envisioned is the rehabilitation of wells and pumping stations, drilling and the equipping of wells, construction of a water sterilisation station, the upgrade and laying of pipelines and the installation of house connections, and the replacement of water meters.

The project is expected to save about 2.2-million cubic metres of water a year that is currently lost in the network. The project will also develop the water distribution network and improve drinking water services, thereby improving the living and health conditions of the population.
