Degrémont has strengthened its presence in Africa, winning four new water treatment plant construction and refurbishment contracts worth a total of €40 million.

Degrémont CEO, Rémi Lantier, commented: “We are delighted to be able to support the development of numerous African countries thanks to our knowledge of local issues and imperatives. In choosing us, our clients recognise the quality of our work and Degrémont’s expertise on the African continent, built up over many years.”

In Luanda, Angola, EPAL (Empresa Pública de Águas de Luanda) has chosen Degrémont for the refurbishment of its Kifangondo water treatment plant for a total cost of €28 million. The 30-month contract will supply 140,000 m3/day of drinking water to this rapidly- expanding city.

In Tanzania, Degrémont will construct the water treatment plant for the city of Musoma, on Lake Victoria, in partnership with Spencon. This project is part of a major programme financed by the AFD (Agence Française de Développement) to improve the quality and distribution of drinking water and treatment of wastewater around the lake. This 18-month, €18.6 million contract, of which Degrémont has a share of €3.5 million, will ensure better access to drinking water, serving 94% of the urban population of Musoma compared to just 76% now.

The ONEA (Office National de l'Eau et de l'Assainissement) in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, has entrusted Degrémont with the refurbishment of two lines of the current water treatment plant (40,000 m3/day of which 28,000 m3/day will be refurbished) and the construction of a new UCDcompact unit treatment line producing 900 m3/hour (18,000 m3/day). This €6.4 million contract, of which Degrémont has a €4.6 million share, will be implemented within eight months for the compact unit, and 12 months for the refurbishment. The operation will be financed by the AFD, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the ONEA.

The AAWSA (Addis Ababa Water and Sewerage Authority) has selected Feljas & Masson, with Degrémont as declared sub-contractor, for the refurbishment and extension of the Legadadi water treatment plant in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The extension is for a new 42,000 m3/day line to provide 192,000 m3/day of drinking water to the population of Addis Ababa. Degrémont’s contract is for €3.6 million over a period of 18 months.

Since its first installation in Africa for the construction of a drinking water plant at Djoué- Brazzaville in 1952, Degrémont has now been involved in over 500 projects on the continent.

With its excellent reputation for the quality of its design and build for wastewater treatment plants, Degrémont works with its African clients to meet their need for efficient, reliable, robust and economical solutions for drinking water and sewage.
