David Brown is an iconic engineering brand associated with the much-loved Aston Martin DB models of the 1950s and 1960s, as well as the David Brown tractor – the workhorse for the revolution in global agriculture. The company is also known for its role in World War II as the supplier of gearing solutions for the Spitfire fighter aircraft.

Today, David Brown’s unrivalled 150-year history of engineering for mission-critical applications across key industries is behind every bespoke original-equipment-manufactured gearbox and aftermarket gearbox service and repair job.

With four manufacturing sites and 15 service centres globally, industrial gear systems designer, manufacturer and services provider David Brown Gear Industries focuses its engineering capabilities on delivering its gearing solutions and services to customers in the mining, industrial, power generation, rail and renewable-energy sectors.

The company is home to a wealth of gear engineering and industry expertise and boasts the largest MAAG gear manufacturing and measuring machines in Africa. Further, its Benoni- based facility, in Ekurhuleni, South Africa, is considered the global centre of mining excellence.

To ensure product reliability and reduce the total cost of ownership, David Brown works in partnership with its customers in mission-critical applications and in the most challenging environments. Developed in key markets across the globe, the company’s wealth of experience in gear services and repairs involves upgrading and maintaining any kind of gearbox across a range of industrial applications. The company also provides on-site inspections, overhauls, strategic spares management and full asset management services.

Further, David Brown designs, manufactures and sells products with a three-year extended warranty package and in accordance with AGMA, BS, DIN, API and ISO standards. The company produces a variety of gears, including girth gears of up to 14 m in diameter, case-hardened gears up to 3 m in diameter, and gearboxes of up to 50 t.

The company’s other products include mill drive systems, agitator/thickener drives, conveyor drives, shovel and dragline components and stacker/reclaimer drives.

David Brown’s 13 950 m² Benoni-based premised are located at 12 Birmingham street, Ekurhuleni. Established in 1947, the ISO 90010-accredited company has a BBBEE Level 4 rating (2015 standards) and more than 150 years of engineering experience.
