The project is located on the Indus river, 7 km upstream of Dasun, in the district of Kohistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in Pakistan.

Client
Pakistan Water & Power Development Authority (WAPDA).

Project Description
The Dasu project is downstream of the proposed Diamer Basha dam site and will be a run-of-river operation and will have an installed capacity of 5 400 MW and provide energy of 21 700 GWh/y. The project will be built in two stages.

Stage 1 includes the construction of a roller-compacted concrete dam with appurtenant structures; an underground powerhouse with appurtenant structures; six turbogenerators with a total installed capacity of 2 160 MW; one double-circuit 500 kV transmission line; the relocation of the KKH (62 km), Colony and right bank access roads (81 km); and a 132 kV transmission line. Land acquisition, resettlement and environmental and social management will also be pursued.

Stage 2 includes the construction of an underground powerhouse and appurtenant structures; the installation of nine turbogenerators with a total capacity of 3 240 MW units; and one double-circuit 765 kV transmission line.

The operation will have a gross storage capacity of 1.41-billion cubic metres and live storage capacity of 820-million cubic metres.
