The Democratic Alliance (DA) is set to deliver a memorandum to Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown on Wednesday to protest Eskom's electricity tariff hike requests.

DA parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane said the opposition party will not stand for the burden of Eskom's mismanagement being placed on the shoulders of South Africans.

He will hand over the memorandum on the first day of the new 12.69% tariff increase for consumers already struggling to make ends meet.

"In addition to the increase already granted to Eskom, the State utility now wants to approach the National Energy Regulator of South Africa yet again, this time to double the tariff hike to 25.3%," the DA said in a statement.

Joining Maimane will be the DA shadow minister of public enterprises Natasha Mazzone, DA shadow minister of energy Gordon Mackay and DA Gauteng provincial chairperson Solly Msimanga.
