Name and Location
Cuxhaven wind turbine manufacturing facility, Germany.

Client
Siemens.

Project Description
The project involves the construction of a wind turbine manufacturing facility in Cuxhaven.

The plant will be located at the edge of the harbour and will have a surface area of 170 000 m2 – the size of about 24 soccer fields.

A poured concrete plate, 320 m long and more than 160 m wide will be held in place by 1 900 concrete piles and will form the base of the future production hall, which will be up to 30 m high. Once production begins, the ground must withstand heavy loads of up to several hundred tons.

Besides the assembly hall, a two-storey building with a useable area of about 3 800 m2 will be built, which will accommodate offices and a canteen, as well as a technological building and a gatehouse.

Value
€200-million.

Duration
Construction of the actual building was officially started by Siemens with a ground-breaking ceremony in the middle of June.

By mid-2017, the production of nacelles for the next-generation D7 wind turbines will have begun.

This will coincide with the start of the manufacturing of the 75 m rotor blades at the new plant in Hull, UK.

Latest Developments
One year after the initial investment decision, construction at the building site has started. Soil compaction and the preparation of the pile foundation, with 1 900 concrete piles, have already been completed.
