CSIR launches research commercialisation enterprise

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, or CSIR, launched its intellectual property commercialisation enterprise C-Cubed to commercialise its initial portfolio of 18 technologies. Schalk Burger has more.

Schalk Burger:

The CSIR, as a research and development organisation, wants to commercialise its intellectual property to have a positive impact on society and the economy.

The research conducted by the institution means the C-Cubed commercialisation enterprise has an evergreen pipeline of inventions, but the CSIR requires entrepreneurial skills and funding partners as the other two pillars needed to establish viable businesses, hence the launch of C-Cubed.

CSIR CEO Dr Thulani Dlamini said that the research institution was aiming to create a dynamic ecosystem of willing partners, as commercialisation of intellectual property required critical ecosystem elements to incubate and drive the use of technology.
