Corobrik eyes govt housing programmes for growth
Clay brick and paving manufacturer Corobrik has set its sights on supplying its products to the local affordable housing market in the year ahead, as government is expected to increase its initiatives to meet the deficit in the housing market for homes valued at between R100 000 and R350 000.
Corobrik MD Dirk Meyer explained that the looming municipal elections would provide municipalities with impetus to deliver more houses and amenities. “One example is the cycle tracks being installed in Soweto and Tembisa – good potential business for Corobrik,” Meyer said.
The Johannesburg-based company also saw significant potential for growth in the market targeting the emerging middle-class, with the country set to experience significant growth in construction of homes valued at between R500 000 and R2-million.
"This is the townhouse market that virtually disappeared in 2008, but is making a comeback. It offers significant growth opportunities as, outside that arena, there has been only a slow, gradual increase in the number of plans passed," Meyer pointed out.
Corobrik also identified social infrastructure as a key area of growth, noting that government’s school infrastructure development initiatives, as well as the building of hospitals and clinics bode well for the company for the coming year.
The company was also planning to expand its focus on opportunities into the rest of the Southern African Development Community and would pursue sales growth in the region during the year.
