Following its business taking a knock in South Africa as a result of the weak rand last year, Malaysia-headquartered cooling solutions company Dunham-Bush (DB) plans to grow from strength to strength this year.

“There is no doubt that 2016 will bring even more challenges. The current economic situation will not change overnight, but we will have more targets to fulfil, especially a higher profit target,” says DB CEO Max Ghiassian.

This year, DB aims to expand its manufac- turing footprint globally, and one of the projects in the pipeline is the start of construction of its new US plant, which it aims to use to provide better service for the US market, as well as for the rest for the Americas region.

The company plans to have factories or subsidiary companies on all continents. “Our global presence will be more reasonable and cover more areas. We will develop more new products,” says Ghiassian.

Meanwhile, he adds that DB’s high efficiency 2500T double-stage centrifugal chiller has been tested successfully, and will be rolled out in all the markets the company operates in.

In addition, its new low ambient temperature air source heat pumps are currently in the research and development phase and will be introduced onto the market during the course of the year.

Further, the company says it will also provide systematic solutions on cooling and heating applications using energy saving, low- carbon, clean and environment-friendly pro- ducts.

Another new development this year will be DB UK assembling semihermetic screw compressors and chillers. In addition, since the new US factory will need support from all the other sub- sidiaries, DB will promote original-equipment manufacturer centrifugal chiller sales in India.

The company will also promote sales team cooperation among different regions and different subsidiaries on international projects.

“All of this is possible but none of it will come easy. We need to find the right path to success,” says Ghiassian, adding that it is no accident that DB has managed to progress over the past 120 years since its inception.

“It is the courage, determination, innovation and teamwork of generations of DB people that beat challenges and saw it emerge even stronger than before.”

He says it is the DB spirit that has made the company’s commitment to innovation enduring.

“We are the first company in the world to introduce the screw technology to air conditioning applications, we developed the sixth generation of hermetic screw chillers, and introduced centrifugal chillers onto the market for the first time in DB’s history, as well as other new pro- ducts such as magnetic centrifugal chillers, double-stage centrifugal chillers and semi- hermetic compressors.”

Ghiassian also mentions that other reasons DB has survived and prospered are the company’s commitment to treating talent as its most valuable treasure, also maintaining a good working environment and company culture to attract professionals with solid qualifications and international background.

“Moving forward, I hope we are the generation of great achievers in DB history and make DB a better company to let more of the com- pany’s products shine in every corner of the world,” says Ghiassian.

He points out that, even though last year was a tough year for the company, it still managed to achieve all its profit goals. And in addition, there were other achievements, such as making progress on centrifugal products – making more centrifugal chillers, which were shipped to more countries.

Ghiassian says, although the road to success may be hard, it eventually leads to a better place.

“No matter where you are – China, the US, Malaysia, Africa or the UK– and no matter what you do – engineer, general worker, secretary, caretaker– as long as we choose hope over fear and unity of purpose over departmental conflicts, with common effort, shared responsibility and bold, persistent innovation, we can achieve success together,” he concludes.
