Conveyor belt at Richards Bay Bulk Terminal suffers minimal damage in fire

Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) reports that the Richards Bay Bulk Terminal suffered minimal damage to one of its conveyor belts undergoing repairs as a result of a fire.

Emergency teams, however, reacted swiftly, containing the fire. As a result the adjacent conveyor belts are in full operation.

TPT says the fire was most likely caused by burnt woodchips being blown by the wind from the adjacent woodchips precinct to the conveyor belt.

"Terminal operations have not been impacted. Emergency teams remain vigilant, closing all gabs that might cause the risk of fire as the woodchips industry is still fighting the blaze," it adds.
