While Sasol has been cleared from prosecution over a 2004 blast that killed ten people and injured 100 more at its Secunda plant, two of its contractors would be charged with culpable homicide, a trade union said on Tuesday, calling for the publication of a report on the incident.

"Solidarity demands publication, within 48 hours, by the Department of Labour of the report on the 2004 Sasol explosion," it stated. "The trade union maintains that this information must be disclosed, in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (Act 2 of 2000), since the report is of material concern to the public."

"Parties involved with Sasol have been kept in the dark regarding the findings of the investigation, and they are entitled to fair access to this information," said to Solidarity spokesperson Jaco Kleynhans.
