The yearly Master Builders South Africa (MBSA) Congress will be held in Port Elizabeth in September, where national and African representatives will have an opportunity to discuss the latest trends, opportunities and challenges in the building industry.

With the congress theme of Building a Sustainable South Africa, the focus will be on the Eastern Cape, as the province is registering the fastest growth in areas such as infrastructure and power generation, as well as in commercial and industrial development.

Accountant Pierre Voges, who now is part of the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) will be one of the keynote speakers and will highlight some of the fast-growing projects in the municipality.

He adds that the MBDA, as a Section 21 company of the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality and the Industrial Development Corpor-ation as a shareholder in the MBDA, implements about three infrastructure projects every year in the municipality.

“The objective of the MBDA is to regenerate the central business district through such infrastructure projects, the municipality is able to fulfil its objective,” Voges high- lights.

Other speakers who will address the congress include business author Clem Sunter, who will discuss issues pertaining to the built environment and world trends that influence the industry.

University of the Free State vice chancellor and rector Professor Jonathan Jansen will address issues pertaining to developing skills that will further ensure growth for the industry.

“We are very excited not only to celebrate our 109th congress but also to hear from these and other exciting speakers about how we, as an industry, can build a sustainable South Africa. “Also, with South Africa celebrating 20 years of democracy, the building industry continues to play a significant role in driving growth and job creation,” highlights MBSA executive director Tumi Dlamini.

She adds that the congress aims to address issues affecting the construction industry and the country and invites engineers, architects, construction managers and regulators of large and small businesses to attend the congress.

Dlamini points out that construction managers, engineers, quantity surveyors and architects attending the congress will gain continuous professional development points, which will assist them with the planning and execution of their future projects.
