Power Technologies subsidiary Aberdare Cables has, in accordance with the Competition Commission’s corporate leniency policy, applied for leniency and been granted conditional immunity against prosecution by the Competition Tribunal in respect of a commission investigation into certain alleged prohibited practices in the power cable market.

This after the commission earlier this week referred a complaint to the tribunal against all members of the Association of Electric Cable Manufacturers of South Africa, including Aberdare Cables.

The company said in a statement on Friday that it had cooperated fully with the commission’s requirements in terms of the investigation.

“Given that Aberdare Cables has and will continue to fully comply with the commission’s requirements in terms of their investigation into these alleged prohibited practices within the power cable market, it does not anticipate incurring any penalties as prescribed by the Competition Act,” it outlined.
