Mobile hand-held computer manu-facturer Psion secured a bulk order for 1 000 new Psion EP10 personal digital assistant (PDA) hand-held computers from German mobile computing hardware distributor Warok, in April.

The company states that the order, which followed unprecedented customer interest, creates a tailwind for the EP10.

“The live demonstrations of the PDA at recent shows resonated well with our customers and led to some initial orders. “This, together with the impressive functionality and capabilities of the product, prompted us to order 1 000 units,” says Warok director Dominik Rotzinger.

“We believe that this robust device will allow us to immediately deliver the first orders and to meet future demand quickly,” he adds.

As with Psion’s Omnii XT10 hand-held computer, the cost-effective EP10 was developed based on the principles of open-source mobility.

Owing to its compact design, the device can be used in any area where persons such as courier drivers, service technicians or agents have mobile access to data.

Equipped with a OMAP3 processor from digital signal processing technology developer Texas Instruments, the EP10 features 9.4 cm display and mobile communication standards, such as third-generation wireless communication technology, code division multiple access, a global positioning system, wireless fidelity, bluetooth and a high-speed data packet access global system for mobile communications.

Psion states that the EP10 is a strategic extension of its range of mobile business devices, with the extensive capabilities of high-end PDAs.

Further, the device is equipped with interactive sensors, such as light, motion and acceleration sensors, as well as a digital compass.

“We’re delighted with the EP10 commitment from Warok as well as the trust placed in Psion,” concludes Psion Germany MD Jürgen Heim.
