Transportation manufacturer and supplier Talbert Manufacturing has manufactured its first trailer with corrosion protection supplier Corsol WB corrosion protection in June, says Talbert Manufacturing sales and marketing VP Greg Smith.

Smith explains that it is a complete metal treatment system that protects the steel from the corrosive effects of magnesium chloride, calcium chloride, sodium chloride, rock chipping, acid rain and extreme temperatures.

The Corsol WB system is made by corrosion solutions manufacturer PRP Industries. The process is used as an alternative to hot dipped galvanising, owing to exceptional performance, lower weight and cost.

The result is a satin black finish that prevents corrosion from degrading the metal components. Corsol WB is a field-proven system that is especially beneficial for use on structural steel that requires high corrosion and chip resistance, adds Smith.

Further, he notes that Corsol WB is ideal for haulers who transport through salty conditions along the coastal regions, where the chemicals have become increasingly corrosive and damaging to trailers.

It has been shown that components coated with Corsol and used in coastal regions have reached 15 years of age with little or no deterioration.

In addition to the available corrosion protection, Talbert’s 3553TA features a six-degree load angle for the towing and recovery industry, as well as rental equipment and construction equipment with low ground clearances. It has a 96.52 cm loaded deck height and is equipped with a 9 000 kg planetary winch, highlights Smith.

The winch is operated with a six-function wireless remote, which enables one person to load a piece of equipment without leaving the tractor. The wireless remote controls the axles, winch and deck.

Talbert’s 3553TA also comprises a T-1 and 80K steel beam constructed framework and 10.16 cm I-beam cross members on 22.86 cm centres that provide a stronger framework for more concentrated loads, such as rollers and pavers. The trailer is rated for 31 751 kg evenly distributed, or 22 680 kg in 10 feet, he says.

Other standard features include 2.54 cm apitong flooring, as well as side and centre tie-downs. Apitong is a tightly woven, highly dense wood that provides a longer wear-life, as it is less susceptible to chipping or cracking than other deck materials. Side and centre tie-down slots make it easier to secure more types of loads.

Talbert has been building world-class heavy-haul and specialised trailers to rigorous customer specifications since 1938. The company offers complete lines of heavy haul trailers and specialised transportation equipment for the commercial, industrial, military and government sectors. Its trailers and equipment are used in applications as diverse as renewable energy, aerospace, heavy construction, in-plant materials handling, manufacturing and processing systems.
