Supplier and installer of quality products to the building industry Aluglass recently invested in a R350 000 laser-cutting machine from Germany.
The machine was specially acquired when the company decided against outsourcing the required work for a project, and to rather use the opportunity to build internal capacity, says Aluglass CEO Niels Eichhorn.
The company reports that the machine does basic timber panel processing, but it is primarily used for products in the sign- writing industry.
Further, the machine has engraving and embossing capabilities. The company reports that this machine will be used to prepare the panel surface for the walls to optimise acoustic behaviours in a room and prevent background echoes. It will also benefit the company in future projects that require such technology, he adds.
The machine was assembled locally and operators have been trained. The company believes that this training adds value to the existing skills of its employees, says Eichhorn.
He says that the company also uses a wide array of computer numerically controlled machining systems to manufacture high-quality products.
The company reports that it imports gearbox drives from Germany. The company exports about 20% of its products yearly to African countries.
