Mechanical and electrical engineering specialist Powermite has introduced its SR-Express spring cable reels, which form part of specialist in power and data transfer systems Conductix-Wampfler’s global SR series of spring cable reels.

Powermite is the exclusive Southern Africa distributor for Conductix-Wampfler, which is renowned for its high-quality, customised cable reels for the bulk materials handling industry, says Powermite director Donovan Marks.

“The spring cable reels are engineered to meet the energy and data supply requirements of moving machinery, from overhead bridge cranes, gantries and mobile tables to aerial ladders, lifts, elevators and elevated work platforms,” he says.

He adds that the company offers an extensive range of the spring cable reels from which clients can choose without any customisation required. Owing to the company’s sizeable offering, clients will find what they require within the product range.

The SR-Express spring cable reels are unique because they have been designed over many years by the company’s international partners, notes Marks. Taking into consideration the years of experience and customer feedback, our partners decided to make the current range more cost effective.

Given that our partners are a large multinational, they obtain feedback from a variety of customers worldwide from a variety of different applications and, through this information, they are able to look at product improvements in the research and development department.

Marks adds that the reels are designed to suit many applications, compared with other manufacturers that tend to cover many applications using a one-sized reel, subsequently making it very expensive to buy a reel for a basic application.

The SR-Express range (SR10-SR60) is a tailored response to client expectations, offering them the best qualities of Conductix-Wampfler’s spring cable reels.

Marks explains that all components – from the cables and cable drum to the slip rings, springs and mounting flange – are manufactured from the most durable materials to ensure optimum operational efficiency over a long life cycle.

“The rugged and versatile IP65-rated SR-Express range is protected against dust and water ingress and is able to withstand an impact of 20 J.”

He adds that the units continue to deliver optimum performance – even in the most stringent conditions – in an ambient temperature range of –20 ºC to 60 ºC for the standard environmental specification and as low as –40 ºC for the E1 specification. An E3 option for severe conditions will be introduced at a later stage.

The spring cable reels are suitable for indoor and outdoor applications and are supplied with the cable already installed and connected to the slip rings, making it ready for use and keeping downtime to a minimum.

“We support all our products with excellent service, and after-sales service delivered by our highly trained, qualified team of technicians at Powermite’s national branch network across the country, concludes Marks.
