Since many South African farmers still use some of the older welding and repair processes – which are dated, slow and costly – local gas and welding company Afrox aims to convert many of these processes into more advanced, semiautomated processes.

The company will, therefore, showcase the many applications of its products at the 2015 Nampo Harvest Day, which will take place in Bothaville, in the Free State, from May 12 to 15.

Afrox events manager Mark Perfett says doing so will prevent farmers from having to scrap expensive equipment that they could have repaired at a fraction of the cost of buying new equipment, noting that a good example is the building up and resurfacing of old plow shears, thereby extending the equipment’s working life.

The company will also use the event to display Bundu Power generators powered by Handigas. “These LPG generators run much quieter and cleaner and are another solution to the ongoing electricity supply challenges.”

Perfett says Afrox is positioning itself as the more cost-effective and safer energy solutions provider through its LPG Handigas solution.

“Handigas LPG can be used in agricultural applications, such as chicken broiler heating, welding, cooking, lighting and heating.”

Trusted Quality
Afrox develops a Nampo exhibit theme every year that supports the company’s wider strategy. Perfett notes that this year’s theme – Quality You Can Trust – underlines the Afrox quality management system, which ensures that all products are supplied to international, national and company standards.

He says that the company’s product and service offerings for the agriculture sector are carefully considered: “The foremost consider-ation is that the products meet sector needs.”

On Display
Products that will be on display at the Afrox stand this year include the locally manufactured SmoothFlo regulator.

Perfett highlights that the SmoothFlo regulator is one of the safest gas regulators in its class, offering a multistage-like performance from a single-stage regulator.

Afrox will also display its GoldFlo bronze-coated GMAW wire for high-integrity welding work. Its improved chemical composition levels ensure improved weld metal deoxidisation, making it suitable for welding metals that have medium to high mill scale or rust. “The bronze coating enables the welder to work on materials with densities of up to 25% higher than that of normal copper-coated wire, achieving a higher melting and deposition rate and increasing welding speeds by up to 20%,” adds Perfett.

Other consumables on display include hard-facing electrodes for farm equipment repair, Vitemax premium electrodes for mild steel application, as well as the Transarc 6013 cost-effective alternative electrode.

Afrox will also highlight Agrigas, the com-pany’s exclusive industrial gas offering, which provides farmers with the flexibility to keep cylinders without having to pay a monthly rental fee for those cylinders that are not used.
