Industrial equipment supplier Banding and Identification Solutions Africa (Bisa) is calling for distribution partnerships to help the company expand its footprint in Africa.
The company – the only certified African distributor of the US and UK manufactured Band-It products – has noted a substantial increase in demand for its cable-securing Band-It product range in Africa, with a 10% growth in such exports over the past two years, Bisa senior sales representative Matthew Campbell shares with Engineering News.
“Particular interest has been shown by South Africa’s neighbouring countries and East Africa. The discovery of offshore gas pockets off the coast of East Africa has resulted in an increase in the need for safety in chemicals and petrochemicals projects that require robust cable management solutions.”
However, Campbell explains that getting the best fit-for-purpose banding solution for Bisa’s end-clients throughout Africa presents a logistical challenge for the company.
“Bisa needs to reach clients to inform them of superior quality, the simplicity and vast range of applications, and the strength of its products. The best method with which to do so is through demonstrations. Bisa does not have the sales and distribution capacity to reach all the potential markets within the African region that it would like to enter.”
The Band-It range of stainless steel band, buckle systems, preformed clamps, cable ties and identification solutions have been refined and made suitable for the African market, says Campbell.
He highlights that the majority of Bisa’s Band-It products make use of manual installation systems which allow for installations to be undertaken in remote areas without access to electricity. He adds that the products are also made from stainless steel making them more robust and impervious to harsh African climates and tough industrial applications. He states that the products have also been specifically designed to mitigate challenges associated with cable theft.
“When Band-It sees different applications or requirements in different parts of the world, it brings this to the attention of the global Band-It family, so that it can enrich its knowledge base even further. Ultimately, this level of intimate customer knowledge feeds through into the company’s new product development efforts and ensures that products overcome difficult industry challenges,” explains Banding & ID Solutions South Africa sales director Rosa Dos Remendos.
Campbell states that all Band-It products are produced in the US and the UK using the latest technology and material, ensuring high-quality and robust products that are tested against European and African safety standards. He adds that the simplicity of the Band-It design makes it particularly well suited to the African market, which often struggles with a deficit in industry training.
The Band-It product range of equipment requires no specialised training to apply and can be done quickly and easily, reducing costs associated with downtime and the hiring of skilled personnel.
Bisa is currently demonstrating the strength of its Band-It offering on a cable management project for a large petrochemicals company in South Africa. Campbell states that the petrochemicals company undertook a project in 2015 to run a new pipeline from its source in Mozambique back to the company’s operation in South Africa. Bisa is supplying the items to a contractor that is performing the safety-critical cable maintenance for this ongoing project.
