Self-cleaning overbelt magnet
Among the equipment on display at Multotec’s outside stand at Electra Mining Africa (EMA) 2012 is the self-cleaning overbelt magnet used specifically for the removal of tramp material from conveyor belts. This electro-magnetic unit, suspended over the conveyor on gantries for easy tramp removal, can be moved in situ to facilitate maintenance requirements, which offers the major advantage of being able to carry out maintenance of the magnet unit without stopping the plant. The magnet features an automatic belt-driven self-cleaning mechanism that dumps the tramp iron into collection bins located on the side of the conveyor.
Multotec spirals pilot plant
A mobile spirals pilot plant, which has been modified specifically for the EMA 2012 exhibition to operate independently on four spirals, will be operational on the company’s outside stand. There is growing interest in this plant, particularly from junior miners and operations that are not yet fully up to speed, where there is pressure to start minerals processing as soon as possible. The compact spiral pilot plant has been engineered as a pre-assembled unit for simple set-up, complete with wiring, and harnesses Multotec’s proven technology. The innovative unit comprises Multotec spirals and cyclones and, for coal applications Multotec sieve bends. The pilot plant has a general capacity of 10 tph and 20 tph for heavy minerals, offering 36 tph for coal.
Multotec AA165 cyclone
Also being showcased at EMA 2012 is Multotec’s monolithic ceramic cyclone, where components are bonded into a single unit. This technology is particularly suited to fine cut point applications, where the internal geometry is extremely critical. Without the need for tiles, there are no protuberances in the internal geometry of the cyclone which can detrimentally affect the cyclone’s efficiency. The lower pressures achievable with this monolithic unit make for valuable energy savings, while a quick-release apex and vortex finders reduce cyclone downtime considerably. The ceramic is protected by a non-destructible shell. Compared to tiles, monolithic ceramics offer advantages that include full changeability with polyurethane cyclones of similar dimensions in the Multotec range, as well as considerably longer wear resistance and operating life, with genuine cost efficiencies across the board.
Multotec CL115 cast iron cyclone
This is the largest cast iron cyclone manufactured by Multotec, with a diameter of 1150 mm. The cyclone is manufactured from high chrome, which offers excellent wear resistance properties and makes it suitable for application where tramp iron is present, typically it in dense medium applications such as diamonds. This cyclone incorporates a Multotec innovation that eliminates the use of flanges reducing the overall cost of the unit.
CX1200 fine coal centrifuge
Manufactured under license to Siebtechnik, Multotec’s CX1200 fine coal centrifuge for dewatering applications features ceramic tiles on high wear areas within the unit ensuring longer operational life and minimised wear. Segmented wedgewire screens are fitted in a robust cage, allowing for quick maintenance and reduced downtime when changing baskets. The CX1200’s wide range capacity makes it suitable for all plant configurations, with good dewatering results assured from a larger dewatering surface area.
A highlight this year is Multotec’s CY-i suite of cyclone sizing and selection software, which has been upgraded to include the sizing of DMS and classification cyclones, together with several other programme enhancements. Launched in 2010, this innovative software suite has been developed to equip Multotec customers with a scientific and structured approach to making the appropriate initial selection of a DMS or classification cyclone solution, by using variables within their own plant configuration to determine cyclone configuration.
Pressure pipe sampler
Visitors to the stand will also encounter a newly designed pressure pipe sampler, designed and engineered in collaboration with industry specialists and a tertiary education facility that ensures representative samples under pressure conditions in slurry pipelines. The sampler differs from traditional pressure pipe sampling technology, where a probe is inserted into the pipeline to extract the sample. Instead, the innovative Multotec pressure pipe sampler is fitted to the pipeline, where an intricate valve mechanism diverts slurry to the sample container while maintaining pressure in the pipeline. The result is the collection of an accurate representative sample.
