Seventeen Hansen P4 large industrial gearboxes, with motor power ranges from 90kW to 800kW, will drive ThyssenKrupp Materials Handling’s (TKMH) coal handling equipment at a new power station in South Africa’s Limpopo Province. The two companies, Hansen Transmissions South Africa (Pty) Ltd (HTSA), a trusted supplier of large industrial gearboxes to Southern African mining and industry for close on half a century, and TKMH, a turnkey bulk materials handling solutions specialist, have worked together on several large South African developments in the past.

According to HTSA Operations Manager, Ludwig Maier, the company’s solid reputation as a supplier of only the highest quality, reliable drives, was without any doubt instrumental in securing the order from TKMH. “Our P4 large industrial gearboxes, with torque ratings of up to 1300 kNm, are well known and highly regarded for their unequalled quality and reliability and are tried, tested and trusted partners for conveyor drives, aerator drives, mixer drives, etc. across mining and industrial sectors,” explains Maier.

“In addition, I believe we presented the right product at the right price and in accordance with TKMH’s strict product quality criteria. Although we regard the drives supplied to TKMH as fairly standard, in my opinion our ability to accommodate virtually any functional requirement from the customer is yet another point in our favour. We also understand and respecting timelines for any project. It was therefore crucially important that we met TKMH’s three phase delivery schedule of mid- and end-2011 with final delivery completed in early 2012.”

According to Maier, the customer is taking responsibility for maintenance at this stage. “However, if required, the HTSA team is available to discuss maintenance contracts with the end user. Our service plans are well structured and incorporate maintenance plans with regular machinery checks, reports, early detection of wear and tear, preventative maintenance as well as on-site repairs to keep downtime and resultant production and revenue losses to an absolute minimum. A skilled Field Service team is also on standby around the clock to assist end users with onsite repairs and advice.”

HTSA remains one of the fastest growing, most trusted suppliers of large industrial drives to Southern African industry. Managing Director, Fritz Fourie, says that HTSA’s solid ethic of delivering impeccably engineered, best-in-class products, service commitment and long term customer relations, are just some of the factors that TKMH would have taken into consideration before again selecting HTSA as a preferred provider.

“Our engineers combine international know-how with local application knowledge and are skilled in analysing individual requirements to present valuable technical advice to the customer and to recommend the best, most cost effective and holistic solution for the application. In other words, we do not just supply an industrial gearbox, we supply an all-inclusive solution for customer peace of mind,” concludes Fourie.
