ESAB has won a tender from Bladt Industries A/S in Denmark for a range of welding products and systems.

Bladt Industries fabricates steel structures for the wind energy sector, the oil and gas industry and the construction business. The company has recently been contracted to manufacture 175 offshore foundations for the first phase of what will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm.

Bladt Industries will manufacture the 175 offshore foundations at its facilities in Aalborg, Denmark. The 175 foundations form the first 630MW phase of the London Array, which is enough to supply around 472,500 homes. When complete, London Array will be the largest offshore wind farm in the world with a total capacity of 1,000MW. It will be located 20km from the Essex coast in the outer Thames Estuary.

The material thickness used will be 75mm with a machine processed 16˚ joint. Submerged arc welding with tandem welding head and the newly developed 120mm contact jaws makes it easy to reach narrow joints.

Bladt Industries has invested in the following ESAB automation products:- eight new column and booms, 12 pieces of 300 tonnes conventional roller beds, eight sets of 400 tonnes conventional roller beds and retrofit of eight existing column and booms.

A major part of the Bladt Industries order is retrofit equipment on existing products where ESAB has a strong record of good service - an argument for choosing the company as a supplier on this major project, says ESAB’s Automation Sales Manager Nordic Region, Magnus Andersson.
