Name and Location
Coal-fired captive power plant project, Tanzania.

Client
Dangote Cement.

Project Description
The project involves the construction of a 75 MW coal-fired captive power plant adjacent to Dangote's cement manufacturing plant, at Pemba Mvita Mbuo near Msijute village, Mtwara district.

Electricity to be generated will be used to run the plant and machinery for the manufacture of cement, utilities and a housing colony.

Having a captive power generating plant is essential, as the pyroprocessing is conducted in a rotary kiln, in which temperatures are higher than 1 500 °C.

Any interruption in power supply, or unstable voltage or frequency causes extensive damage to the refractory and the rotary kiln parts.

Refractory failures cause production shutdown varying from 15 to 30 days and unscheduled use of costly imported refractory bricks and castable.
