Clinix Health Group, South Africa’s black owned and managed private health care provider has been granted a license from the Gauteng Department of Health to operate a cardiac services facility at its Dr SK Matseke Memorial Hospital in Diepkloof, Soweto.

Reflecting on the significance of this for the group, Dr Peter “Kop” Matseke Group CEO says: “Clinix is very pleased to be able to bring world-class cardiac facilities to the thousands of residents in Soweto and surrounding areas. This goes to the heart of the Clinix brand where we strive to bring quality healthcare closer to where people live.”

Mr Kgolo Matseke, Dr SK Matseke Memorial Hospital’s Manager, mentions that “the addition of specialist cardiac facilities to the hospital’s existing services enhances the value of the hospital to the residents of Soweto. We will now be able to comprehensively look after patients who suffer from heart attacks and heart failure and those who require procedures such as a heart bypass. We already have a number of patients who have been treated in the new facilities. “

With cardiovascular disease being one of the most prevalent causes of death in South Africa, Clinix’s specialist cardiac facilities are expected to contribute positively to patients in Soweto and beyond.

Dr Martin Mpe, a well recognised cardiologist both locally and globally, and who leads the team of 5 cardiologists at the SK Matseke Memorial Hospital says: “Cardiovascular health is something we need to pay far more attention to in South Africa.

It is the number one cause of death in the country. According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of South Africa, while 80% of heart disease and strokes can be prevented, 225 people die of heart related illnesses and complications every day.

The residents of Soweto now have our cardiac facilities at their disposal and through this, as well as better lifestyle choices, we hope we can contribute to decreasing the prevalence and loss of life from cardiac diseases.”

The Dr SK Matseke Memorial Hospital’s dedicated hybrid cardiac theatre contains a cutting edge, next generation image-guided therapy platform that allows doctors to easily and confidently perform procedures offering patients a unique user experience. Through this, the medical team is also able to deliver outstanding patient care by combining clinical excellence with workflow innovation.

Clinix representatives are available for interviews or more information.
