Band-It stainless steel clamping systems importers and manufacturers Banding & ID Solutions Africa notes that the design and portable structure of its Band-It clamping products make them suitable for use in mechanical transmission applications.

“Band-It clamping products are used for the inner and outer constant velocity (CV) boot used in the transmission part of a car’s engine and they play an important role in ensuring that the boot is tight and consistent, with no sharp edges, which could cause considerable damage to the entire wheel drive. “To safely secure the CV boot, a 6 mm band is used in conjunction with a 6 mm clip, in addition to a 10 mm band with a 10 mm clip,” says Banding & ID Solutions sales representative Bertie Ferreira.

He adds that the CV boot is greased to reduce friction and adequately lubricate all mechanical components.

Banding & ID Solutions business manager Rosa Remendos highlights that the temperature inside the CV boot can reach 160 ºC and severe damage to the boot could occur if it is not effectively secured and insulated, as a result of overheating and mechanical component failure. Therefore, the Band-It range of strapping plays an important role in securing the boot, while ensuring that grease does not escape.

“Band-It is recognised as a world leader in quality-engineered band clamping and fastening products for numerous applications, ranging from motorsport to oil refineries and do-it-yourself projects. As an authorised manufacturer and distributor of genuine Band-It products, our customers are ensured peace of mind as they are provided with high-quality products that are supported by dedicated after-sales and technical support,” she explains.

The company notes that, in 2012, motor corporation Toyota’s Toyota Hilux racing team competed in the National Cross Country Championship in the US, and in the 2013 National Rally Championship in South Africa, where the teams used the Band-It clamping products for the CV boots.

Toyata Hilux racing team driver Giniel de Villiers notes that the Band-It range of clamps, bands and clips have proved to be essential in the continued success of the team’s off-road vehicles. “Band-It has validated its reputation for being highly robust and reliable. I believe that these products, without doubt, contributed to our success in 2012,” he says.

The Toyota Hilux racing team participated in the 2014 Dakar Rally – the 14-stage,
8 500 km South American off-road endurance race – from January 5 to 18. The team achieved an impressive third place in 2012.

De Villiers believes that the continued use of the Band-It clamping products will have proved to be an advantage for his team in this year’s competition.

“We fully commit our knowledge and expertise to each indivi- dual application, as is the case with Toyota, to ensure that the client receives the highest value from each Band-It product they buy from us,” concludes Banding & ID Solutions director and co-owner Terry O’Kelly.
