Chevrolet has announced that it will unveil its first entry into the small sports-utility vehicle (SUV) segment on September 27, at the Paris Motor Show.

The new Trax is a “modern, highly versatile, yet fuel-efficient small SUV, offering car-like handling and all-wheel drive," says Chevrolet Europe president and MD Susan Docherty.

“Trax is the modern expression of one of Chevrolet’s core competencies, which is building and selling great SUVs.”

The engine line-up will include a 1.4-l turbocharged petrol unit, a 1.6-l petrol engine, as well as a 1.7-l turbo-diesel engine.

The all-wheel drive system will be available on variants with the 1.4-l turbo petrol engine or the 1.7-l diesel engine.

The Trax will offer seating for five people, as well as a 358 l trunk. In addition to a 60/40 split rear seat, Trax also has a front passenger seat that can fold flat.

The small SUV will also be available with Chevrolet MyLink. This is an infotainment system that aggregates content from smartphones onto a seven-inch, high-resolution, full-colour touch-screen display.

Chevrolet says MyLink will soon feature a navigation app which can be downloaded onto compatible smartphones. This app allows the system to project the route calculated by the smartphone onto the system’s touch-screen.

Trax will be equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control, hill start assist, traction control, as well as an anti-lock braking system with electronic brake distribution.

General Motors South Africa product communications manager Caroline Thomas says the local company is “currently reviewing Trax as a possible new entry into our exciting Chevrolet portfolio”.
