CGG GeoSoftware has launched PowerLog 9.5, the new version of its flagship well log petrophysical analysis software. PowerLog is designed for efficient multi-user environments and drives collaboration among petrophysicists, geophysicists, geologists and reservoir engineers for better reservoir understanding. Greater insight into subsurface rock and fluid properties can significantly improve completion design and help E&P companies to reduce their costs and risks while drilling more productive wells.

PowerLog 9.5 includes new features for better data management, improved asset team collaboration and streamlined workflows. A new sandbox implementation increases interpretation speed and helps guarantee the integrity of a company’s log database by allowing individual users to transfer wells to local projects, interpret the wells, and then transfer results back to the central database.

In addition, new shale volume determination methods enable more robust clay determination, which is particularly useful for unconventional reservoirs. Additional water saturation algorithms help with evaluating complex carbonates and shaly sands.
Well-based petrophysical evaluations of reservoir lithology can also be compared to and integrated with equivalent seismically- or geostatistically-derived lithology interpretations for building more complete and accurate 3D reservoir models.

Fred Jensen, Product Strategy Manager, Petrophysical Applications, CGG GeoSoftware, said: “PowerLog offers petrophysicists, geologists and reservoir engineers an easy-to-use yet extremely powerful well log interpretation environment for collaborating quickly and efficiently on important drilling and production decisions. As industry recognition of the important role played by petrophysics within an integrated reservoir characterization workflow increases, we will continue to enhance PowerLog’s capabilities to meet the needs of its growing number of users.”
