Cerro Pabellón is located in the Atacama Desert, in the Ollagüe district, Antofagasta region, Chile.

Project Description
Cerro Pabellón is the first geothermal power plant in South America and the world’s first large-scale facility of this kind to be built at 4 500 m above sea level.

The facility comprises two units with a gross installed capacity of 24 MW each for a total capacity of 48 MW.

It will be able to produce about 340 GWh/y, equivalent to the consumption needs of more than 165 000 Chilean households, while avoiding the emission of more than 166 000 t/y of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Duration
The first 24 MW unit started to deliver energy to the Norte Grande transmission system –Sistema Interconectado del Norte Grande, of SING – at the end of March, while the second unit will be fully operational in October.
