Electrical distribution and protection equipment provider CBI-Electric: low voltage has launched a new 240 V alternating current Euro USB socket outlet that comprises two complementary plug sockets and two integral USB ports.

“With the addition of this product to the company’s standard range, customers no longer require a USB adapter, but can plug right into the wall socket outlet to charge their electronic devices,” says CBI-Electric product manager Manuel Ribeiro.

The socket outlet was first introduced onto the local market in late 2015.

The outlet, which can easily be installed and operated, is rated at 16 A and 240 V. The USB ports are rated at 2A (cumulative) and 5 V direct current. The socket outlet has been tested and complies with SANS 164, as well as SANS 60950.

“The product’s design takes into account the industry application, with a configuration that is the first of its kind,” says CBI commercial executive Charl Osborne.
He explains that the configuration includes one three-pin SA, one Euro and two USB outlets. Osborne believes this is ideal for the tourism industry, stressing that the USB outlets can charge all types of communication and universal data devices.

In addition, CBI concluded the nationwide launch in November 2015 of the CBI3, an innovative design tool for the consulting engineering sector. The CBI3 is “a real-time, online and Web-based tool that provides workflow integration, design verification, design-to-quote and value- add, product search and configuration control capabilities”, according to the company website.

The new design tool provides an improved user interface, as well as improved system analysis functionality.

It has been designed to run on search engines such as Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and Opera and is suitable for both desktop and mobile smart devices.

CBI is also currently involved in numerous projects, including real-time energy monitoring. The company plans to introduce a new product that provides this real-time energy monitoring for the market at the African Utility Week and Clean Power Africa conference and trade exhibition, which will run from May 17 to 19 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

Other company projects in the pipeline focus on supply stability for appliance protection, which are mainly aimed at the residential market, as well as a wireless Class 1 metering concept. CBI-Electric plans to launch these products in early 2017, Osborne concludes.
