The City of Cape Town is to restart the bidding process to find a long-term operator for the Green Point Stadium.

Its bid adjudication committee decided on Monday not to choose any of the three bids submitted to operate the stadium after the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

"According to the report before the [committee], the three tenders were found not to comply with some of the elements of the bid document," the city said in a statement.

The city would now readvertise a request for proposals, which would be open to both the original bidders and any new ones.

This second round would not delay the stadium construction in any way.

The bidders were Facilities Management Africa, Green Point Western Cape Consortium, and a consortium consisting of four parties - Investec, Venfin, SAIL and the Western Province Rugby Football Union.

"This is a major contract for a R3 billion asset and we must make absolutely certain that we find the right operator with the best long-term management plan, track record and success recipe," said Mike Marsden, the city's executive director for service delivery integration.
