JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Oil and gas explorer Camac Energy’s Kenyan subsidiary has awarded seismic contracts for the acquisition of two-dimensional (2D) seismic surveys on its onshore Block L1B in Kenya, and partly onshore and partly offshore Block L16, also in Kenya.

This followed the acquisition of 2D seismic surveys covering offshore Blocks L27 and L28 in March, the results of which were currently being processed.

The company hoped the seismic surveys would identify the geologic prospect elements that could lead to a commercial hydrocarbon discovery and meet the obligations of a work programme.

Camac said on Wednesday that there were five broad play types in the area that could extend onto the company’s acreage.

"In addition to the environmental- and social-impact assessment that has been completed, and the airborne gravity and magnetic survey data that have been acquired, these 2D seismic surveys will continue to advance our work programme and our understanding of the petroleum resource potential in these blocks,” commented Camac senior VP of exploration and production Segun Omidele.
