The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) Business Confidence Index (BCI) fell by 5.7 index points to 82.7 in November – 8.1 points lower than in November 2014.

Sacci states that the BCI is finding it difficult to break from the 80- to 85-point range.

It further notes that the domestic economy performed below potential.

The November month-on-month changes in the BCI subindices were more discouraging than the changes in October, with four of the 13 subindices positive, five undecided and four negative.

Notwithstanding lower inflation, unchanged municipal utility services and real private-sector borrowing, compared with November 2014, all other subindices performed worse than a year ago.

Real economic activity, as well as financial circumstances, was in a worse situation than in November 2014.
