Aviation Travel & Logistics Holding Limited (ATL), on behalf of the Rwanda Ministry of Infrastructure.

Project Description
The project entails the construction of an international airport in Bugesera, with an initial capacity of 1.7-million passengers a year. The second phase will increase the airport’s capacity to 4.5-million passengers a year.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $818-million. Phase 1 will cost $418-million and Phase 2 $400-million.

Duration
The first phase is expected to start in June 2017 and be completed by December 2018.

Latest Developments
The Rwanda government signed an agreement with Mota Engil Engenharia e Construção in September this year to build the airport. The company is expected to build and complete the airport by December 2018 and later run the facility’s operations for 25 years, with the option to extend the contract by 15 years.

Under the agreement, government will not incur any costs in the construction of the facility. Mota Engil will recoup its investment by running airport operations.
