Powermite, a division of JSE-listed Hudaco Industries, has a dedicated focus on the industrial and mining sectors and sees a bright future for its export potential to South Africa’s neighbouring countries, CEO Mike Allnut says.

He notes that the company is arguably one of the biggest specialised electrical product suppliers in South Africa.

Through its Ampco Manufacturing arm of mining and industrial plugs and sockets, it has become the largest supplier of connectors in sub-Saharan Africa, says Allnut.

He says that the company is also a registered exporting company that is regularly invited by the Department of Trade and Industry to participate in trade exhibitions in countries like Chile and Peru.

There are 160 employees in the three divisions that make up Powermite, namely materials handling, industrial plugs and sockets and flexible trailing cables used in mines and the industrial sector.

The materials handling division supplies electric feeder systems, transmission equipment and turnkey projects, which are offered in cooperation with its suppliers for applications such as motorised or spring cable reeling drums, energy drag chains and plug and festooning systems.

Its cabling division supplies a range of low- and medium-voltage flexible, control and instrumentation cables.

Allnutt says Powermite is proud to be the largest supplier in South Africa that offers cable reeling drums, festoon systems and flat cables to meet its customers’ various requirements.

The company plans to further research local manufacturing opportunities to produce the high-quality products supported by an after-sales customer service centre.

According to Powermite financial director Gawie Beukman, the company continuously monitors and upgrades its management system and is ISO 9001-certified.

It also has a Level 3 broad-based black economic-empowerment rating.

Powermite is a subsidiary of JSE-listed industrial products distributor Hudaco Indus- tries and is geared for further growth. The company has its head office in Roodepoort and branches with stockholding in Cape Town, Durban, Witbank, Secunda, Richards Bay, Rustenburg and Vereeniging, as well as on Gauteng’s East Rand.
