Bridal Veil road overpass bridge project, South Africa
Name and Location
Bridal Veil road overpass bridge project, Gauteng, South Africa.
Client
The project is being developed by Atterbury Property Development and engineers AECOM for and on behalf of Attacq, the exclusive holder of the development rights to Waterfall City.
Project Description
The project involves the construction of a highway overpass bridge south of the Allandale interchange and north of the Buccleuch interchange, in Midrand.
The development will be undertaken in strategic phases to minimise disruption to traffic on the N1 while the overpass bridge is being constructed. The overpass will create a direct link between Midrand and Waterfall City, opening an important route that will make travelling easier and faster for the growing number of people who live and work in this Gauteng development node. The superstructure of the bridge will be 115.8 m long and will carry four lanes of traffic (two in each direction), a pedestrian walkway, a cycle track and a raised-centre median, giving the bridge a width of 22.7 m. It will also feature streetlighting below and above the bridge, illuminating the N1 highway and Bridal Veil road.
The development forms part of the infrastructure development in Waterfall City, the largest greenfield urban concept in South Africa.
Value
R160-million
Duration
Construction of the bridge started in November 2014 and will take 16 months to complete, in time for the launch of the new 127 000 m2 superregional shopping centre, Mall of Africa.
