BMW Group plant, Mexico
Name and Location
BMW Group plant, San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
Client
BMW Group.
Project Description
The San Luis Potosí plant will manufacture the new BMW 3 series sedan.
The plant will offset production capacity at BMW’s Rosslyn plant, in South Africa, which will build the new BMW X3 instead of the BMW 3 series in future.
It will produce 150 000 units a year and will comprise a body and paint shop and an assembly line. It will be BMW’s most resource-efficient production location worldwide. It will use renewable-energy sources, ensuring the plant is supplied with 100% carbon-dioxide-free electricity, with most of the electricity coming from a solar system on the facility’s grounds.
The facility will also have the lowest water consumption per vehicle produced in the production network.
This will be BMW’s first paint shop that will produce zero process wastewater. The water for the painting process will be reconditioned and recycled.
The group will rely exclusively on digital, three-dimensional (3D) plans for construction and equipment installation at the plant.
During each phase of development, specific information will be uploaded, such as location, dimensions or completion date, into digital models.
Value
BMW is investing an estimated $1-billion in the new facility.
