South African petrochemicals giant Sasol said on Tuesday that it had appointed GM Bheki Khumalo to the Sasol Synfuels, Sasol Gas, Sasol Mining and Sasol Polymers boards.

In an emailed statement, the firm further said that it had appointed Reiner Groh, who was GM of Sasol's chemical businesses, to the boards of Sasol Chemical Industries, Sasol Synfuels, Sasol Olefins and Surfactants, Sasol Polymers, Sasol Solvents, Sasol Technology, Sasol Chemical Holdings International, Sasol Wax International, Chemcity, Sasol Nitro, and Sasol Investment Company.

Sasol has built a plant in Qatar that produces petroleum from natural gas, using the Fischer-Tropsch process, which it improved during South Africa's apartheid years.

It is also looking to build coal-to-liquids (CTL) and gas-to-liquids plants in the US, Australia, India and China.

It already operates two CTL plants in South Africa.
