Engineering and construction group Basil Read on Monday announced the appointment of Pieter Marais as financial director, effective immediately.

Marais would replace outgoing financial director Donny Gouveia, who had resigned from the position to continue in the company as deputy CEO.

Marais, a chartered accountant with a diverse financial background, joined Basil Read in January 2012, before which he headed up enterprise resource planning implementation and management information projects at mining major AngloGold Ashanti.

He also spent ten years at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the assurance division, servicing primarily listed clients in the mining, financial services and construction industries, after which he completed his chartered financial analyst exams and spent three years as a sell-side equity analyst at Investec Bank.
