BASF invests in community school

BASF South Africa (Pty) Ltd donated on Friday, 28th February, R50 000 towards educational equipment for the Cotswold Primary School in Port Elizabeth.  The school, which caters for 450 children from Grades R to 4, is committed to providing a strong educational grounding for children from disadvantaged communities in and around Port Elizabeth.

Said BASF South Africa’s Site Director, Paul Allday: ”BASF globally selects Corporate Social Responsibility programs that foster  positive social development. The company’s activities are focused above all on making  contributions towards the education of young people. BASF also considers voluntary work conducted by our employees to play an important part in maintaining a functional community.”

Apart from the relevant donation, BASF South Africa has identified the need to support the fight against the growing problem of drug abuse in the communities in which the school children live.  Therefore, during the cheque handover presentation held at Cotswold Primary School on Friday, BASF staff members took the opportunity to engage the learners in a drug awareness play in order to emphasize the dangers of drugs.
