PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Mineral sands miner Base Resources has reported a 29% increase in the mineral resource at its Kwale South Dune deposit, in Kenya.

The South Dune deposit is estimated to host some 114.1-million tonne of resource at an average heavy mineral grade of between 3% and 25% slimes for 3.47-million tonnes of heavy minerals.

Base said on Tuesday that in addition to the increased resource estimate, there was a significant increase in the confidence of the mineral resource estimate, with 71% of material tonnes, and 76% of heavy mineral tonnes estimated to be in the measured category.

The company noted that the increase in the Kwale South Dune deposit resource was attributed to the discovery of additional contiguous resource extensions to the south of the project.

Mining operations at Kwale were currently being conducted from the Central Dune deposit, and would transition to the South Dune deposit in the second half of 2019.
