Melrose Arch, South Africa’s most sought-after business address, has welcomed leading, closed medical scheme, Bankmed to its high-profile precinct. Joining DuPont, Bidvest Group, Lonmin, Mastercard, Royal Bafokeng Holdings, Stanlib and Worley Parsons, Bankmed adds to the long list of corporate heavyweights already enjoying the excellent business facilities on offer. It recently began begins operating from its new 648sqm Melrose Arch head office

Melrose Arch precinct manager, Mike Vermaak, says: “As a leading institution in its own right within the insurance industry, Bankmed has made a smart choice for its new head office at Melrose Arch. It has established a convenient, secure and environmentally innovative base that supports an atmosphere for its business, clients and employees to flourish.” The superbly positioned offices, located within South Africa’s most iconic urban development, offer access to endless businesses amenities as well as both world-class hotels and luxury apartments, and the best in local and international retail and entertainment – all right on their doorstep.

Bankmed, a closed medical scheme aimed specifically at the South African banking industry, provides cover to around 100,000 main members within South Africa's financial institutions, including Standard Bank, Absa, First National Bank and the Reserve Bank. This translates to providing over 200,000 South Africans with access to quality healthcare services. It has over a century of experience in providing healthcare insurance and in this time has accumulated unparalleled, specialist insight into the management of health in the banking sector.

Commenting on the move, Bankmed CEO and Principal Officer, Teddy Mosomothane, says: “The entire Bankmed scheme management team will be moving to Melrose Arch. The location of our new offices will provide far greater convenience for both our clients and staff, resulting in less time wasted in traffic.”

With some of its largest employer clients based within the Johannesburg CBD, Bankmed wanted its new offices to be close by, with easy access to the highway – making Melrose Arch the perfect choice. Also at the top of its list was the desire for excellent facilities in keeping with the Bankmed brand. The added convenience of great retail and restaurants in the immediate vicinity was also a high priority.

Bankmed relocated from Braamfontein, where its employees were offered less in the way of nearby retail and food options, and they are especially happy to have a wide-range of amenities around them. However, the benefits of Bankmed’s new premises also go well beyond its location perks, to inspiring businesses interiors. “This new workspace has been designed to be tranquil, comfortable and inviting and the security offered by our new premises only serves as an added bonus,” says Mosomothane.

Renee Feeney, head of leasing at Melrose Arch who concluded the deal with Bankmed, says: “The move to Melrose Arch has provided Bankmed with boundless benefits for its entire business. Clients will no doubt welcome the central location, while employees will be provided with both a new sense of freedom and flexibility during their working hours, be it to grab a quick bite for lunch, a visit to the gym or simply the convenience of purchasing groceries on their way home.”

Melrose Arch is respected as one of the most prestigious business addresses in South Africa. Secure, pristine and pedestrian friendly, Melrose Arch is considered an ideal location by many top national and multinational concerns and leading blue-chip companies because of the ease, safety and enjoyment it offers for business at the highest levels.

It is part of the pioneering portfolio of the Amdec Group, a privately-owned property development and investment business. With 26 years of experience in the property industry, Amdec is recognised as South Africa’s leading developer of New Urban lifestyles.
