ArcelorMittal South Africa  (0.05 MB)

Averda, the leading end-to-end waste management company in the emerging world, operating across both the public and private sectors, announces the win of a 3-year contract with ArcelorMittal South Africa, the largest steel producer in Africa.

The contract scope involves collection, transportation and disposal of several complex waste streams including sludge, coal tar, oil and grease, effluent, borax and phosphates, among others.

Averda will offer specialised equipment to ensure material recovery is maximised and non-recoverable material will be efficiently, and safely managed at the highest environmental standards.

The site of the facility that will be serviced by Averda stretches over 97km² in the Vaal Triangle’s Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark just south of Johannesburg and adjacent to Averda’s world-class hazardous treatment and landfill facility, Vlakfontein.

This contract builds upon Averda’s national footprint in South Africa, providing end to end waste services, including on-site industrial cleaning and waste collection to a wide range of corporates and management of state-of-the-art facilities both for treatment and disposal for numerous waste streams across South Africa.

Averda’s business units and processes are ISO certified and the company delivers high quality yet cost-effective services that have placed Averda at the pinnacle of the environmental service industry within South Africa

Commenting on the contract win, Johan van den Berg, Managing Director in South Africa said, “This is an excellent win for Averda, demonstrating our ability to secure more technical waste service contracts with prestigious clients like ArcelorMittal South Africa and expand our market share across South Africa.

"Averda’s ability to assess and effectively win new projects is possible due to our capable and dedicated team that works seamlessly together coupled with committed investment that Averda has instituted in South Africa. The team continues to demonstrate the ability to meet client demands swiftly and effectively and with the highest standards of quality, health and safety and environmental protection.”

Due to criticality, the project began a week earlier than planned, which required additional focus from the Averda South Africa team to prepare the equipment and manpower to ensure operational readiness from day one, which is testament to Averda’s ability to mobilize systems and procedures with accelerated speed and agility.
