JSE-listed construction firm Aveng Group has announced the appointment of acting CEO and FD Kobus Verster as CEO, with immediate effect.

Verster, who had “extensive” experience in the steel and mining sectors, holds a BCom degree from the University of Potchefstroom and a BCom Honours in economics degree from the University of Pretoria.

He also holds an MBL from the University of South Africa and attended the Executive Management Programme, at the University of Virginia, in the US.

Prior to joining Aveng, Verster was CFO at ArcelorMittal South Africa, where he previously held various senior management positions.

“The board considered a number of candidates, both locally and internationally, but believes that this is the right appointment to take Aveng forward on a path to growth and improved performance. I would like to congratulate Kobus on his appointment and look forward to working with him," commented Aveng chairperson Angus Band.

Verster would continue in his capacity as acting FD until a new FD was employed.
