PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Copper miner Avanco has warned shareholders that it might scale back operations at its Antas openpit mine, in Brazil, due to a nation-wide truck driver strike.

The miner said on Wednesday that a prolonged strike could adversely impact the supply of consumables for mining and processing operations at Antas, while also delaying the transport of copper concentrate to the port.

While mining and processing operations were currently unaffected, Avanco noted that operations could be scaled back in the coming days in order to preserve fuel stocks on site.

Negotiations between the Brazilian government and the truck drivers were expected to start on Wednesday to resolve the issues.
