Toyota South Africa Motors had, by the end of March, handled 19 695 vehicles as part of its local recall programme to repair potentially faulty acceleration mechanisms on more than 52 000 Corolla, Auris and Verso vehicles.
Spokesperson Leo Kok says 116 out of 216 new-generation Prius models had also already received a software update to counter possible brake system failure.
The recall process started in February.
Kok says it is early days still, but it appears that the recall programme has not affected Toyota vehicle sales, or the number of enquiries from potential customers.
Work on all the models takes less than an hour.
“We are pleased with the number of vehicles already handled. We hope to complete the process well before our June deadline.”
