Niall Lynch will take over as CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa (HASA) in July next year, replacing Alan Ross, who has served as executive team leader of this company in the Imperial group for the past 15 years.

Lynch, who has been Renault South Africa (SA) MD since December 2013, will serve as CEO designate of HASA from January 1, 2016, reporting to Ross until his appointment as CEO on July 1, 2016.

The changes, announced by Imperial group CEO Mark Lamberti, arose from “succession and developmental requirements”, and followed “an extensive recruitment and assessment process”.

“These appointments signal lmperial’s intent to develop a new generation of high-calibre leaders and, whenever possible, to do so through internal appointments.”

When Ross retires next year, he will assume the position of nonexecutive chairman of the board of HASA.

He will also take responsibility for Bid 4 Cars.

Hyundai dealerships will report to him until December 31, 2016.

Lynch, son of the late Bill Lynch, who led Imperial Holdings as CEO until shortly before his death in 2008, started his career at ING Barings Bank London as a mergers and acquisitions analyst in 1999, after obtaining BCom and MBS degrees at the University of South Africa and University College Dublin respectively.

Lynch returned to South Africa to join Imperial as franchise director for Renault Retail Operations in 2003.

In 2008, he joined Eqstra as director of investor relations and strategy before returning to Imperial in 2009 to hold franchise director positions for Honda, Ford and Mazda, and Jaguar and Land Rover.

New Renault Boss
Imperial has also announced that Nicholas de Canha will be appointed Renault SA CEO on November 1.

De Canha will be appointed CEO designate from July 1, reporting to Niall Lynch, until November 1.

De Canha has been Imperial Fleet Management CEO and an executive committee member of the Imperial Retail, Rental and Aftermarket Parts division since October 2010.

His academic qualifications include a MB B/Ch (Wits), MBA (GIBS) and SEP (Stanford University).

He is currently reading for a PhD in business and economics at Monash University.

De Canha joined Imperial in 2009 as regional sales manager for Daihatsu.

This was followed by various executive com-mittee or board roles with Goscor, Chery/Foton, AMH Africa and Mitsubishi.
